Sheriff deputies, in coordination with the State Highway Patrol, responded to several traffic accidents during a winter snowstorm that lasted from Tuesday, Dec. 9, to Wednesday, Dec. 10. It was a tough two days on roadways all cross the state of Minnesota.

Two people were injured in a traffic accident on Highway 10 near Perham at 3:08 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10. A 2007 GMC Yukon was traveling west when it veered off the roadway and overturned in the medium. Snow and ice were factors in the accident.

The driver, 37-year-old Ricardo Zavala Martinez of Pelican Rapids sustained a non-life-threatening injury. Also sustaining a non-life-threatening injury was a passenger, 62-year-old Martin Pantoja, also of Pelican Rapids. Both were taken to the hospital in Perham.

Assisting the county sheriff office and state patrol at the scene of the accident were Perham EMS, Perham Fire Department and the Perham Police Department.

In other areas of Otter Tail County, on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10, several vehicles went off roadways in light of snow and ice conditions. Included were jackknifed semis along Interstate 94 in the southwestern section of the county.
