Eagles edge Swanville for fourth win of the season

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the Park Region Conference after splitting a pair of games last week. After defeating Swanville 61-54 in non-conference action on Tuesday night, the Eagles fell to Bertha-Hewitt 64-63 in a close Park Region Conference battle on Thursday night.
The Eagles will hit the road a bit this week as they travel to Henning on Tuesday night and Verndale on Friday night for a pair of conference games.
Dec. 29
The NY Mills had a tough challenge waiting for them in the opening round of the Perham Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 as the Class AA eighth ranked Perham Yellowjackets welcomed the Eagles to the Hive. Unfortunately, Perham pumped out 59 points in the first half on their way to an 82-46 win over the Eagles.

NY Mills trailed 59-18 at halftime, but were able to outscore the Yellowjackets 28-23 in the final 18 minutes of action as seven NY Mills players were able to get into the scoring column.
The Eagles were led offensively by Annika Dunrud with 16 points and Gabi Vaden with 14 points of her own. Rosemary Laudenbach scored seven, Chloe Costin four, Alise Schornack three, Morgan Brunko two and Julie Seim rounded out the scoring with one point.
Dec. 30
Park Christian hit eight 3-pointers and knocked down 24 shots inside the arc on their way to an 80-43 win over the NY Mills Eagles in the third place game of the Perham Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30.
The Eagles trailed 43-25 at halftime after the Falcons hit six 3-pointers in the first half alone and made all five free throw attempts to take a big lead at halftime. The Eagles were unable to come back in the second half to finish in fourth place in the tournament.
Annika Dunrud led the charge offensively for the Eagles as she finished with 25 points as she knocked down five 3-pointers of her own. Gabi Vaden scored eight points, Morgan Brunko scored five, Rosemary Laudenbach scored three and Alise Schornack rounded out the scoring with two points.
Jan. 3
Gabi Vaden scored 12 points in the first half and Annika Dunrud chipped in with seven of her 12 points in the opening 18 minutes of action as the NY Mills Eagles took a 28-27 lead over the Parkers Prairie Panthers in their return to home on Saturday, Jan. 3. Unfortunately, the Panthers were able to do just enough down the stretch to tie the game at 47-47 and force overtime in what would turn out to be a wild non-conference game to open the 2026 portion of their schedules.
The Panthers were able outscore the Eagles 10-2 in the overtime session after knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and hitting four free throws to come away with the win.
Vaden led the way offensively for the Eagles with 21 points, while Dunrud scored 12 points in the loss. Rosemary Laudenbach scored eight points, Morgan Brunko scored three and Julie Seim scored three points off the bench.
