A three-year old child was killed on the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 11 after an attack by an adult American Bulldog at his grandmother’s home west of New York Mills.

According to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the child, who had climbed into an outside enclosure where the dog was being kept, was attacked. The child’s grandmother also received significant injuries in attempting to save her grandchild from the dog’s grasp.

On route to the Perham Health Emergency Room, the 51-year-old female called 911 to report the extensive effects of their injuries. Deputies from the Otter Tail County Dispatch met her at the Emergency Room.

According to the sheriff’s office the child died from his extensive injuries and their grandmother was transported to Fargo, N.D. to be treated for her injuries.

The dog was euthanized and the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and reports that there are no ongoing safety concerns relating to the incident.
