New York Mills improved to 11-7 in duals with a win over Park Rapids Area and a pair of losses to two of the top teams in Section 8A on Thursday night. 

On Tuesday night the Eagles secured a big 52-22 win over the visiting Park Rapids Area Panthers.

The Eagles got off to a fast 24-0 start after Oakley Kern secured a win by forfeit, Toivo Mursu won by a fall late in the first period, Jaeger Zutter won by a fall at the 3:14 mark of the second period and Wyatt Helmbrecht made it three straight pins with a first period pin at 127 lbs.

Toivo Mursu secured a first period pin over Avery Kimball of Park Rapids.

Park Rapids Area secured a major decision at 133 lbs. to cut the score to 24-4, before Creed Mursu won by a pin at 139 lbs. and Elijah O’Dea won by a major decision at 145 lbs. to put the Eagles back in front 34-4. 

From there on out the two teams traded matches with Royce Lorentz winning by a fall at 160 lbs.,
Wessten Simpson winning by a fall at 189 lbs. and Grady Roberts winning by forfeit at 285 lbs. The Panthers secured wins at 152 lbs., 172 lbs. and 215 lbs. to end the match by a score of 52-22.

Creed Mursu works for position during last week’s dual against Park Rapids Area.

In addition to Tuesday’s match against the Panthers, NY Mills dropped a pair of matches in a home triangular on Thursday against Frazee 38-30 and United Clay Becker 38-27. 

This week the Eagles will host another home triangular on Thursday night against Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville, before traveling to Pelican Rapids on Friday night.
