NYM defeats Pirates 70-48 for sixth win of season

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 6-9 overall and 5-4 in the Park Region Conference with a 58-51 win over Sebeka on Thursday night. The game came on the heels of a tough 67-54 non-conference loss to the Rothsay Tigers at home on Tuesday night.

The Eagles are currently in third place in the Park Region Conference with a record of 5-4 and trail just Menahga at 9-0 and Wadena-Deer Creek at 8-1. Meanwhile, Bertha-Hewitt, Henning and Pillager are tied for fourth place with records of 4-5 in the conference.
This week the Eagles will begin an extended home stand to wrap up their regular season with 10 of their final 11 games being at NY Mills High School. After hosting Browerville on Monday night, the Eagles will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday night in conference action, before hosting Menahga on Friday night in another conference game and Battle Lake on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
January 13
The NY Mills Eagles dropped a heart breaker on Tuesday, Jan. 13 by a score of 51-49. The Eagles trailed by a score of 33-19 in the first half after going just 3-12 from the free throw line, while Henning went 11-16 from the free trow line in the first half.
It was a different game in the second half as the Hornets once again scored a majority of their points from the charity stripe, but NY Mills got hot from the field and gave up just three made Henning shots from the field.
Gabi Vaden scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half, while the Eagles outscored the Hornets 30-18 in the final 18 minutes of action, but ultimately came up just short in their bid to knock off the host Hornets.
NY Mills was led offensively by Vaden with 16 points, while Chloe Costin scored 12, Annika Dunrud scored 11, Rosemary Laudenbach scored five, Morgan Brunko scored three and Alise Schornack rounded out the scoring with two points.
January 16
In a tight game early on, the NY Mills Eagled held just a 29-22 lead over the Verndale Pirates, before erupting for 41 second half points on their way to a commanding 70-48 win over Verndale on Friday, Jan. 16.
The Eagles had a balanced scoring attack throughout the night with seven players scoring at least three points or more.
Gabi Vaden led the way for the Eagles with 21 points, including 14 points in the second half. Chloe Costin scored 17 points, Annika Dunrud scored 12, Aria Vanorsdel and Morgan Brunko each scored six points, Addy Johnson scored five and Rosemary Laudenbach rounded out the scoring with three points.
