The New York Mills Eagles led early in the first half, but were unable to overtake the top ranked and conference leading Henning Hornets on Tuesday night in a battle between the top two teams in the Park Region Conference.

The Eagles led at several points early in the first half, but a late run in the opening 18 minutes of the half gave Henning a 38-26 lead at the halftime break. NY Mills played neck-and-neck with the Hornets throughout the second half in a faster paced game with Henning holding a slight 42-35 in the final 18 minutes of action. Ultimately the Hornets were able to overtake the Eagles 80-61 in what was one of Henning’s closest games of the season.

The Eagles were led offensively by Gage Brasel who scored 17 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Bergen Roder scored 11 points, while Kolston Lofgren scored nine points, Jacob Thorsrud scored nine points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, Sean Dresser scored seven points, Finn Roder scored six points and Heath Hammond rounded out the scoring with two points. 

This week the Eagles will travel to Verndale on Monday before hosting Sebeka on Thursday night in another Park Region Conference game. The game will be the first of an extended home stand for NY Mills with nine of their next 10 games being in the friendly confines of the NY Mills gym. On Saturday the Eagles will host Battle Lake in non-conference action at 3 p.m., before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek in conference action on Monday, Feb. 2. 

NY Mills is currently 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Eagles are in third place in the conference standings and trail just Henning at 7-0 and Pillager at 6-1.
