Tumberg takes third, six wrestlers place at BHVPP wrestling tournament

The New York Mills girls wrestling team braved the cold and hosted the first ever all girls event in NY Mills on Tuesday. There were almost 30 matches wrestled between NY Mills, BHVPP and OTC. Six New York Mills girl wrestlers placed in the top six at the Berth-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie girls wrestling tournament on Saturday.
The Eagles were led by Rose Tumberg who finished the day in third place at 118 lbs. after picking up a win by a pin in the opening round of the tournament, before falling to Olivia Browen of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville in the semi-finals by a tech fall.
In the consolation semi-finals, Tumberg secured a pin over Kyleena Rudlang of Staples-Motley by a pin in just 34 seconds to advance to the third place match where she defeated Bella Brandt of Mille Lacs for the second time in the tournament, this time by a third period fall at 5:13 to finish in third place. Tumberg is currently 20-8 on the season.
Shauna Geiser finished in fourth place at 112 lbs., after securing an 11-1 major decision over Ava Molter of Otter Tail Central by a score of 11-1 in the opening round of the tournament, before falling to Leah Greenwaldt of Staples-Motley by a tough 6-0 decision in the semi-finals. Geiser then made quick work of Kaylee Tessman of Ortonville in the consolation semi-finals by securing a pin in just 53 seconds, before falling to Mariah Remer of Mille Lacs by a 12-2 major decision in the third place match. Geiser is currently 19-9 on the season.
Rachel Tumberg also took fourth place by securing a win by a pin over Brielle Flan of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville in the opening round by a pin, before falling to Fayth Lindahl of Spectrum by a tech fall 16-0. In the consolation semi-finals Tumberg defeated Morgan Storlie of Ortonville by a fall in just 35 seconds, before falling to Kelsey Schmitt of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville by an 11-9 decision to finish in fourth place. Tumberg is currently 16-8 on the season.
Makaya Oehrlein finished in fourth place at 136 lbs. after falling to Kalee Winter of Staples-Motley by a fall in the opening round of the tournament and working her way through the consolation bracket. She then secured a 10-5 decision over Kienna Ard of Frazee, before winning by fall over Lyv Peterson of Spectrum at 4:40 in the consolation semi-finals. In the third place match, Winter was once again able to get the best of Oehrlein by securing a pin at the 1:45 mark of the match to leave the NY Mills wrestler in fourth place. Oehrlein is currently 9-9 on the season.
Also placing for the Eagles was Resa Tumberg in fifth place at 106 lbs. and Bella O’Dea in sixth place at 100 lbs.
As a team, the Eagles finished in seventh place overall with 20 teams competing in the tournament.
