Eagles to wrap up regular season Friday against Rockets

The New York Mills Eagles wrapped up Park Region Conference play last week with a pair of wins over Henning and Bertha-Hewitt by scores of 67-54 and 57-49. The two wins came on the heels of a 63-43 loss to Park Rapids on the road.

NY Mills finished its conference season with a record of 8-6 to take third place, behind just Menahga at 14-0 and Wadena-Deer Creek as 12-2. Pillager finished with a record of 7-7, Henning and Bertha-Hewitt both finished 6-8, Sebeka finished 3-11 and Verndale finished 0-14. 

The Eagles, who are 11-13 overall on the season, will wrap up their regular season this week with a pair of home games against Park Christian on Tuesday night and Underwood on Friday night. 

Feb. 3

NY Mills secured a 59-30 win at home on Tuesday, Feb. 3 against the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans.
The Eagles put on a defensive show in the first half as they held the Titans to just 13 points to take an early 30-13 lead. In the second half, NY Mills held the Titans to just 17 points as they outscored NCE/UH 29-17 down the stretch on their way to another non-conference and important Section 6A win.

The Eagles were led offensively by Annika Dunrud who knocked down five 3-pointers on her way to 23 points, while Addy Johnson scored 12 points and Chloe Costin finished with 11 points. Rosemary Laudenbach chipped in with eight points, Alise Schornack scored two points and Addy Wilhelmi rounded out the scoring with one point. 

Feb. 5

The Eagles completed a season sweep over Pillager with a 47-32 win at home on Thursday, Feb. 5. NY Mills defeated Pillager 54-50 earlier this season and were able to hold the Huskies to just two field goals in the first half as they took a 22-8 lead at halftime. The pair of field goals were two 3-pointers as they also hit
a pair of free throws as NY Mills once again proved to be a tough nut to crack on the defensive end of the court. In fact, NY Mills senior Annika Dunrud single handily outscored the Huskies in the first half as she knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and 2-point shots to finish with 12 points in the first half and a game-high 21 points in the win.

In the second half, Pillager knocked down five 3-pointers and three 2-pointers to finish with 24 points in the final 18 minutes of the game, while the Eagles came away with an important 47-32 win at home. 

In addition to Dunrud, Julie Seim scored seven points, Chloe Costin scored six points, Rosemary Laudenbach and Addy Johnson each scored five points and Alise Schornack rounded out the scoring with three points.
