Eagles fall to Rockets in Section 6A tournament to end season

The 14th seeded New York Mills Eagles had their season come to an end on Thursday night at the hands of third seeded Underwood by a score of 62-31. The loss comes on the heels of a 67-23 win over 19th seeded Ortonville last Monday night to advance to the round of 16 in Section 6A.
There are four teams left in the section playoffs with top seeded Hillcrest taking on fourth seeded Rothsay and second seeded Breckenridge taking on third seeded Underwood on Tuesday night at Minnewaska Area High School.
The Eagles ended their season with a record of 12-16 overall and a third place finish in the Park Region Conference with a record of 8-6.
Feb. 17

NY Mills came out on the short end of a 75-58 game to Park Christian in non-conference action on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
The Eagles trailed just 36-33 at halftime, but the Falcons were able to pick up the pace in the second half and knocked down 14-15 shots from the free throw line in the final 18 minutes of action to come away with the win.
The Eagles were led offensively by Gabi Vaden, who had a solid night from the floor as the senior scored 22 points, while Annika Dunrud scored 16 and Rosemary Laudenbach also reached double figures with 13 points of her own. Chloe Costin scored five points and Morgan Brunko rounded out the scoring with two points.
Feb. 20
Senior Annika Dunrud recorded her 1,000th career point (more information about this career accomplishment will be featured in next week’s NY Mills Dispatch) in NY Mills’ regular season finale against the Underwood Rockets on Friday, Feb. 20.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they came out on the short end of a 58-40 game to fall to 11-15 on the season.
Underwood jumped out to a 32-21 lead at halftime and despite five 3-pointers from Dunrud, the Eagles were unable to overtake the Rockets as they dropped their regular season finale at home. Dunrud finished with 20 points, while Julie Seim and Rosemary Laudenbach each finished with five points, Chloe Costin and Gabi Vaden each finished with four and Morgan Brunko rounded out the scoring with two points.
