NYM receives 11th seed in section

The New York Mills Eagles wrapped up their best season since finishing 28-2 and as the section runner up four years ago with a pair of wins last week. 

The Eagles opened the week with a win over Rothsay on Tuesday night by a score of 82-75, before falling to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle by a score of 67-59 on Thursday. NY Mills wrapped up their regular season on Friday with an 83-45 win against Laporte to end the regular season with a record of 18-8.

The Eagles received the 11th seed in a competitive Section 6A tournament and hosted 22nd seeded Ashby in the opening round of the tournament on Monday. The winner of the game will take on sixth seeded Benson on Thursday night on the road. The winner of Thursdays game will take on the winner of third seed Park Christian or Rothsay/Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday night at the high seed.

The section tournament will continue next week with the semi-finals on Wednesday, March 11 at Perham High School and Friday, March 13 at Concordia College in Moorhead. 

Tuesday

NY Mills picked up its 17th win of the season with a tough 82-75 win on Tuesday night. The Eagles were led by the duo of Kolston Lofgren with 31 points and Bergen Roder who chipped in with 20 points. Heath Hammond had one of his best offensive games of the season as he joined the pair in double figures with 10 points, while Gage Brasel chipped in with eight points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

Jacob Thorsrud scored seven points to go along with nine rebounds, Sean Dresser and Jeremy Kopveiler each scored three points to round out the scoring.

Friday

The Eagles wrapped up their regular season with a commanding 83-45 win over Laporte at home. 

In what was their final regular season home game in NY Mills, a total of 14 Eagles managed to find the scoring column with Gage Brasel leading the charge with 15 points and four assists, while Kolston Lofgren scored 14, Jacob Thorsrud scored 12, Eli Vaughan scored eight, Heath Hammond scored seven, Trygg Roder scored six, Carson Thorsrud and Blake Hiltner scored three, Finn Roder, Jacob Wilhelmi and Aiden Schneider each scored three, Sean Dresser scored two and Bergen Roder and Jeremy Kopveiler rounded out the scoring with one point apiece.
