New York Mills School students will get a bit of a jumpstart on school in the fall as they will return to school prior to the Labor Day holiday.
During its regularly scheduled meeting last week, the New York Mills School Board approved its 2026-27 school calendar that will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and end prior to the Memorial Day holiday in May 2027.
Last month NY Mills School Superintendent Adam Johnson said the State of Minnesota made exceptions for school districts to more easily start prior to Labor Day for each of the next two years. The change was made to how Labor Day, which is traditionally the last day of summer vacation, falls on the calendar.
Labor Day is as late as it possibly could be this year and a number of school districts throughout the state are planning to start prior to Labor Day in order to preserve breaks throughout the year and get done prior to Memorial Day or the first part of June.
NY Mills School students will attend school Tuesday through Thursday, but not have school on Friday, Sept. 4 or Monday, Sept. 7.
