A pair of fires strike NYM, Deer Creek area

Fire engulfed a garage and house located at 106 N Walker Ave. in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12. The house was severely damaged and the garage was determined to be a total loss.

A garage is a total loss and significant damage was reported to a home following a large fire at 106 N Walker Ave. in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12.

According to a release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, a fire was reported at approximately 4:29 a.m. on Thursday morning in New York Mills. The original caller identified the fire in the attached garage, but the fire spread to the dwelling. The garage is reportedly a total loss and the home suffered significant damage.
According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office the cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to be non-suspicious in nature.
Personnel from the NY Mills Fire Department and Perham Fire Department arrived and were able to extinguished the blaze.
Residents of the house were able to evacuate with no injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Deer Creek fire
The Deer Creek and Henning Fire Departments responded to a fire in the upstairs portion of a residence in rural Deer Creek on the afternoon of March 11.
According to a release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Korie Gray reported a fire in her residence located on County Highway 50 in rural Deer Creek on Wednesday afternoon. Upon arrival by emergency responders, smoke was located coming from the upstairs portion of the residence. The Deer Creek and Henning Fire Departments extinguished the fire that was contained to an upstairs bedroom. Minor smoke damage was found in other areas of the residence.
The State Fire Marshal responded to the scene for assistance and the fire is believed to be non-suspicious in nature. The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
