The New York Mills Eagles were finally able to head outdoors for a game last week as the baseball team split a pair of Park Region Conference games against Otter Tail Central and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.

After defeating OTC by a score of 7-1 on Tuesday night, the Eagles came out on the short end of a 3-1 loss to the Raiders on Thursday.

This week the Eagles will travel to Parkers Prairie on Monday night, before traveling to Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday for another conference game against the Wolverines.

Brock Ruther connects for a hit during Tuesday’s regular season opener in Henning.

On Thursday the Eagles will travel to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley for a non-conference game, before participating in a split doubleheader against Sebeka and Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Friday in Sebeka.

Finn Wallgren led a balanced offensive attack for the Eagles as he went 2-3 with a run scored, while six batters all collected at least one hit in the game.

NY Mills came out on the short end of a 3-1 loss to the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders on Thursday night

After the Raiders scored on a fielder’s choice in the top of the second inning to make the score 1-0,
NY Mills answered with a RBI double by Henry Oakes that brought Kolston Lofgren across the plate to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Both teams would have their chances to get on the scoreboard again throughout the remainder of the game, but the difference was a two-run home run by Owen Weiher of BHV in the top of the fifth inning to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead, which they would not give up.

NY Mills pumped out six hits by six different hitters in the game with Oakes leading the charge with an RBI double.

Bergen Roder took the loss on the mound as he went six innings and gave up eight hits, three earned runs, while walking one and striking out two. Brock Ruther pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
