Jennie Bucholz is bringing a healthy alternative to downtown New York Mills. Sisu Nutrition opened in the former Peloquin Law Office building in the heart of NY Mills on March 29. Bucholz, who also owns Heart of the Lakes Nutrition in Perham, offers everything from protein shakes, energy teas, snacks and more at her new store.

Spring sports made a triumphant return to New York Mills last week. After last season was canceled due to COVID-19, the trap, track, baseball and softball teams all returned to the fields and tracks last week. The softball team swept a double header against Menahga on Thursday night, while the baseball team defeated the Braves 8-0 on the road on Friday.

The New York Mills City Council received some positive news regarding its financial position last year—even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. During its regular scheduled meeting last Tuesday, the NY Mills City Council received its 2020 year-end audit. The audit found the city’s general fund grew by $193,492 last year, thanks in large part to 46.5 percent more revenue being taken in than originally budgeted.

“This is exciting stuff!” exclaimed visiting artist Joanna Smith Rakoff as she worked with students in the NY Mills High School last Wednesday. Smith Rakoff began her session by reading the “poem of the day’ in celebration of National Poetry Month. The poem was by poet Phyllis Levin. Levin, a well-known modern day poet, had many accolades of which Smith Rokoff shared with the class, even encouraging students to apply for grants and fellowships if they are interested in poetry.

The Easter Bunny delighted children at the Easter Egg Hunt in Smith Park last Saturday with his basket full of goodies.

The NY Mills CROPWALK is being held on May 2. CROPWALKERS helps provide relief and development assistance in more than 80 countries including the United States. It helps more than 3,200 local food pantries, food banks and meal sites in the United States to provide food to neighbors in need. Up to 25% of monies raised assist our New York Mills Food Shelf.

Thursday April 22, 1976

Saturday night was big night for vandals as about a dozen mail boxes were damaged north of town. According to postal authorities, most of the damage was caused along the Davies road and back across to highway 67. Many of the mail boxes were smashed, others were torn from their posts and still others were missing completely.

For a community its size, New York Mills presents one of the finest medical facilities available in the state of Minnesota. The clinic which is pictured is now in use with Dr. John Wild accepting patients there during the week. On weekends, Dr. Wild sees patients in the emergency room in the Community Hospital. The clinic has been built to provide more than adequate room for two doctors and also room for a visiting specialist or physical therapist.

John Braukmann of Butler Township is being awarded his 5-gallon blood donation pin by nurse Pat Seavert. The award was made last week Tuesday at the elementary school where the Red Cross Blood Bank collected 100 pints of blood. John has been giving blood in the Red Cross program ever since it started calling in this community in 1951.

Mrs. Ida Alexandria Nissila-Braa observed her 96th birthday Sunday. Her many neighbors and friends called on her to offer congratulations. Mrs. Braa is again feeling fine although she was ill for a spell during the winter months. She is still mentally alert and enjoys having friends come in to visit with her.

Corporal LeRoy Guck left today for Randall Field, San Antonio, Texas, after having spent about a week here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roman Guck. Cpl. Guck will be assigned to 3510th Pilot Training Wing. Prior to his furlough he was stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Miss.

Harley Karvonen, veteran first baseman has been selected to manage the New York Mills baseball club for the coming season. The “Millers” starting their first full season of night baseball and will again be members of the OTW league and will have an all veteran team back for the leagues campaign which is slated to start on May 13.
