New York Mills dropped a pair of games to Wadena-Deer Creek last Wednesday morning.
In the opening game of the day, WDC secured an 8-2 win after scoring two runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings. They managed 13 hits, but the Eagles were able to limit the damage thanks to some great plays in the outfield.
The lone runs for the Eagles came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Bella Huwe powered a two-run home run over the center field fence to put NY Mills on the scoreboard.

Annika Dunrud led the way offensively for the Eagles with a pair of hits, while Huwe had both RBIs and a home run in the loss.
Rosemary Laudenbach took the loss in the circle as she gave up 13 hits and eight runs of which seven were earned. She walked two batters and struck out five in the game.
In the second game of the day, Aubree Salo put the Eagles in front 1-0 when she connected with an RBI single in the first inning, before the Wolverines tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning on an error. The Wolverines added three runs in the bottom of the third inning on three RBI singles, before NY Mills retook the lead in the fourth inning on an error that brought a run across the plate, an Aurora Jabas fielder’s choice that scored another run and a two-run double by Bella Huwe that put the Eagles in front 5-4.

Bella Huwe tries to pick off a runner during last week’s game against the Wolverines. The senior catcher also hit a two-run home run in the game.
WDC tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk, before taking the lead on an error that brought a run across the plate and an RBI single. The Eagles added a run in the top of the seventh inning to cut the score to 7-6, but could not overtake the Wolverines by falling 7-6. Both teams combined for 17 hits and 13 errors in the game.
The Eagles were led offensively by Huwe and Salo who each had two hits in the loss.
Abby Berndt took the loss in the circle as she gave up 10 hits, seven runs all of which were unearned, one walk and struck out three batters.
This week the Eagles will host Pillager in a doubleheader on Tuesday, before heading to Litchfield this weekend for a tournament.
