The New York Mills Eagles got right into the thick of their schedule last week with five games, including three in the Park Region Conference.
After falling to Parkers Prairie by a score of 7-6 on Monday night, the Eagles picked up a big 2-1 win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, before falling to Sebeka by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The Eagles wrapped up their week with a 12-1 win over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and a 12-2 win over Norman County East/Ulen Hitterdal on Friday.
This week the Eagles were scheduled to play Menahga in a doubleheader on Monday, before traveling to Pine River-Backus on Tuesday. On Thursday the Eagles are scheduled to host Otter Tail Central, before hitting the road on Friday to take on Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.
Monday
NY Mills came up just short in its bid to knock off one of the top teams in Section 6A on Monday night as the Eagles fell to the Parkers Prairie Panthers by a score of 7-6.
Eli Vaughan and Henry Oakes put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning thanks to back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 2-0 in favor of NY Mills. Parkers Prairie cut the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a Trevor Rounds RBI double with two outs.
Parkers Prairie broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with six runs on three hits to take a 7-2 lead. The biggest blow came on a grand slam by Gavin Boesl to bring four runs across the plate.
NY Mills brought the score to 7-6 with a four-run top of the sixth inning that was highlighted by an RBI single by Vaughan, a fielder’s choice by Oakes that brought a run across the plate and a Slade Doll RBI single to bring the Eagles within one run.
Unfortunately, NY Mills went down in order in the top of the seventh inning to end the score at 7-6.
The Eagles were led offensively by Vaughan who hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
Finn Roder took the loss on the mound as he went 4 1/3 innings and gave up three hits, six earned runs, five walks and struck out three batters.

Tuesday
Kolston Lofgren picked up a complete game 2-1 win over Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday night. Lofgren gave up just five hits and one run over seven innings, while striking out five and walking one batter. Lofgren and WDC pitcher Haverkamp combined to give up just 11 hits and three total runs as both pitchers fared well throughout the night.
Finn Roder connected with a two-run double in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie, and it would be all the run support Lofgren would need as the Eagles gave up just a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly and Lofgren stranded the tying run at third base when he recorded the final out of the game by a strike out.
Roder led the way offensively for the Eagles as he drove in both runs and had two hits. Everett Ruther also had a pair of hits and a run scored in the win.

NY Mills took an early 1-0 lead when Roberts hit an RBI single down the right field line to bring Finn Roder across the plate.
The game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the third inning when Kiser hit an RBI double to tie the score at 1-1 and he crossed the plate later in the inning on an error to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead. Neither pitcher gave up another hit the rest of the way as Sebeka came away with a 2-1 win.
Roberts took the loss after going six innings and giving up four hits, two runs of which one was earned, three walks and struck out five batters.
