The New York Mills Eagles continue to drop times and post personal bests on the track and in the field events. Last week the Eagles traveled to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, before hitting the road once again to travel to Pillager on Thursday.

This week the Eagles will travel to United North Central on Tuesday, before heading to Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday for a pair of invites.

Tuesday

On Tuesday the Eagles made the trek to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle for a varsity meet featuring nine teams. The girls team took eighth place and the boys finished in ninth with both teams posting a number of personal and season best times.

“We just keep taking it a day at a time trying to better ourselves and the team,” said head coach Steve Dunrud. “It’s exciting to see the relays and individual events getting better each meet. Now that we have some distances & times, we can re-evaluate our goals and set some new goals going forward with our season.”

On the girls side, Shaila Roberts posted a season best throw in both the shot put with a throw of 31’2 1/2” to finish in fourth place and in the discus with a throw of 81’10”. 

The 4×200-meter relay team of Lily Roberts, Rachel Tumberg, Mary Peterson and Rosie Tumberg posted a season best time of 2:03.8 to finish in fourth place and the 4×100-meter relay team of Roberts, Elliana Koshenina, Peterson and Makenna Brunko finished with a season best time of 59.99 to finish in fifth place. 

On the boys side, Grayson Meyer posted a personal best in the discus with a throw of 102’6” to finish in third place, while Justin Kassa picked up a sixth place finish in both the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.09 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.43. Both times were personal bests.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Meyer, Toivo Mursu, Wyatt Helmbrecht and Kassa posted a season best time of 52.76 to finish in seventh place and Helmbrecht posted a personal best in the long jump with a jump of 15’1 3/4”.

Posting a personal best mark, but not finishing in the top eight were: Makenna Brunko – 200m Dash – 31.30; Kaylee Allen – 100m Dash – 15.10; Channing Frost – 400m Dash – 1:16.68; Esne Lien – 400m Dash – 1:22.68 Ella Holmes – Discus – 68’6” & Shot Put – 22’1 ½”; Kaitlynn Dittmann – 200m Dash – 33.42; Loren Underdahl – 400m Dash – 1:21.86; Toivo Mursu – Long Jump – 12’5 ¼” and Grayson Meyer – 200m Dash – 27.46.

Posting a season best, but not finishing in the top eight were: Kaitlynn Dittmann – 100m Dash – 15.95; Lyla Hersch – 200m Dash – 35.61 and Lilja Pakkala – Long Jump – 10’5”. 

Thursday

The Eagles posted 13 personal records and six season best times at the Pillager Invite on Thursday afternoon. The top three teams in both the girls and boys teams were all much larger than NY Mills with Little Falls taking the top spot for the boys, followed by Becker and Pillager, while Becker took the top spot for the girls with Little Falls and Pillager following behind. 

The boys team placed eighth out of 10 teams and were led the by the 4×200-meter relay team of Tony Nichols, Grayson Meyer, Carter Lien and Justin Kassa who took fourth place with a season best time of 1:40.98.

Tony Nichols finished in sixth place in the long jump with a jump of 18’6 3/4”, Justin Kassa took seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 24.10 and the 4×100-meter relay team of Meyer, Wyatt Helmbrecht, Lien and Chevy Herron finished in seventh place with a season best time of 52.13. 

Also finishing in the top eight was Kassa who took eighth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.16.

On the girls side, Shaila Roberts posted a season best throw in the shot put with a throw of 318”. The throw was good enough for fourth place in the event.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Payton Lausten, Rosie Tumberg and Emily Peeters finished in seventh place with a time of 2:06.08, while the 4×100-meter relay team of Lily Roberts, Eilliana Koshenina, Mary Peterson and Makenna Brunko posted a season best time of 58.7 to finish in eighth place. 

Posting a personal best mark, but not finishing in the top eight were: Makenna Brunko – 100m Dash – 15.26; Lily Roberts – 100m Dash – 14.48; Emily Peeters – 200m Dash – 28.66; Mary Peterson – 200m Dash – 32.20; Lilja Pakkala – Triple Jump – 21’9”; Toivo Mursu – Long Jump – 12’5 ¾” & 100m Dash – 15.82; Chevy Herron – 200m Dash – 26.43 & 400m Dash – 1:00.26; Sawyer Pakkala – 200m Dash – 34.26; Carter Lien – 400m Dash – 59.50 and Garrett Lehmann – Discus – 67’10”.

Posting a season best, but not finishing in the top eight were: Kaitlynn Dittmann – 100m Dash – 15.85 and Shaila Roberts – Discus – 83”0”.
