NYM is 4-3 in Park Region Conference

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the Park Region Conference with three commanding wins last week. After defeating Pine River-Backus by a score of 13-1 on Tuesday night, the Eagles ended the week with a pair of conference wins on Thursday and Friday by defeating Otter Tail Central 11-1 and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 9-4.

This week the Eagles traveled to Frazee on Monday, before hosting Sebeka on Tuesday, Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday and Parkers Prairie on Friday in three straight conference games. 

Tuesday

A 2-1 game heading into the top of the fifth inning the Eagles scored 11 runs thanks to a two-run double by Kolsten Lofgren, an RBI single by Evan Doll that brought a pair of runs across the plate, an RBI single by Henry Oakes, a fielder’s choice by Slade Doll, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Finn Roder that was not only the first out of the inning, but put the Eagles up 11-1. NY Mills would go on to score two more runs in the inning thanks to a Pine River-Backus error and a fielder’s choice to make the score 13-2.

Roder picked up the win on the mound as he went three innings and gave up one hit, one walk and struck out seven batters. Jeremy Kopveiler pitched the final two innings and gave up two hits, one run, two walks and struck out one batter.

Roder, Lofgren and Oakes led the way offensively with two hits apiece.

Thursday

Finn Roder drove in five runs on four hits to lead NY Mills past Otter Tail Central by a score of 11-1 on Thursday. Roder hit a three-run home run to center field in the fourth inning and added a two-run double in the fifth inning that put the Eagles up 10-1. 

The Eagles wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Roder led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, before Bergen Roder followed with an RBI double to put NY Mills up 1-1. Evan Doll connected with a two out single to bring Bergen Roder across the plate and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. 

NY Mills added a pair of runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning and ended the game by the 10-run rule in the fifth inning on Roder’s two-run double and an RBI single by Bergen Roder to put the Eagles up 11-1.

As a team the Eagles collected 14 hits and took advantage of five OTC errors to come away with the commanding win. Finn Roder led the way offensively with four hits and five RBIs, while Bergen Roder, Lofgren and Evan Doll all collected a pair of hits in the win. 

Finn Roder collected the win on the mound as the lefty went five innings, gave up just three hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out four batters.

Friday

NY Mills wrapped up a three win week on Friday night with a 9-4 win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Friday night. The Eagles outhit the Raiders by a 13-4 margin and broke the game open with a five run top of the third inning. Already leading 2-0, Everett Ruther connected on an RBI single to put the Eagles up 3-0 and Henry Oakes followed with a two-run single of his own to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Eagles. Finn Roder walked with the bases loaded and Bergen Roder hit into a fielder’s choice that brought another run across the plate to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Eagles.

NY Mills added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning on a Finn Roder solo home run with two outs and an RBI double by Kolsten Lofgren to put the Eagles in front 9-0. The Eagles would go on to win by a score of 9-4.

Finn Roder, Lofgren, Evan Doll, Eli Vaughan and Slade Doll led the way offensively with two hits apiece, while Lofgren picked up the win on the mound as he went five innings and gave up just one hit, while striking out six batters.
