The New York Mills Eagles continue to drop time as they get ready for the section true team meet this week and the sub section and section track meets later this month.

Emily Peeters participated in the long jump last week.

Last week the Eagles traveled to United North Central for a meet on Tuesday and Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday for a pair of invites that featured anything but ideal conditions. 

This week the Eagles will participate in the section true team meet on Thursday in Frazee.

Tuesday

On a cold and blustery day, the NY Mills Eagles competed at the United North Central Invite on Tuesday afternoon. 

Head coach Steve Dunrud said the team did a nice job on the track and in the field despite the conditions. He said it was nice to see the competitiveness show up with many of the Eagle athletes as they strive to be the best they can be in their events. The boys and girls teams both finished in sixth place out of seven teams by collecting 24 and 19 points respectively.

Tony Nichols was the leadoff runner for a sprint relay.

Shaila Roberts picked up a first place finish in the shot put with a season best throw of 32’9”. 

Emily Peeters picked up a pair of top six finishes as she posted a personal best mark in the long jump with a jump of 14’8” to finish in fifth place, while also taking sixth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.01.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Lily Roberts, Rachel Tumberg, Mary Peterson and Peeters took fourth place with a time of 2:04.05 and the 4×400-meter relay team of Bella O’Dea, Channing Frost, Esne Lien and Rosie Tumberg took fifth place with a time of 5:11.90.

On the boys side, Tony Nichols posted a season best jump in the long jump of 19’2 1/2” to finish in second place and a personal best in the 200-meter dash to finish in sixth place with a time of 24.86. Justin Kassa finished in third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.33 and Carter Lien posted a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.46 to finish in sixth place.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Nichols, Grayson Meyer, Elijah Geiser and Kassa finished in third place with a time of 1:43.22 and the 4×100-meter relay team of Nichols, Meyer, Lien and Kassa finished in fifth place with a time of 53.15.

Posting a personal record, but not placing in the top six overall, were: Lily Roberts – 200m dash with a time of 31.70, Lyla Hersch – 100m dash with a time of 17.08, Bella O’Dea – 400m dash with a time of 1:11.65, Kaylee Allen – discus with a throw of 42’9”, Elliana Koshenina – long jump with a jump of 11’8 ¼”, Chevy Herron – 100m dash with a time of 13.09, Sawyer Pakkala – 100m dash with a time of 17.32, Elijah Geiser – 200m dash with a time of 27.52 and Wyatt Helmbrecht – discus with a throw of 74’7”.

Thursday

On another cold and blustery day, the NY Mills track team traveled to Wadena-Deer Creek and once again posted a number of season and personal best marks.

“As coaches, we are very proud of athletes’ effort and accomplishments each time that we get the opportunity to showcase our skill and abilities,” said head coach Steve Dunrud. 

The boys team placed fifth out of eight teams and scored 42 points, while the girls team placed seventh out of eight teams and posted 27 total points. 

Tony Nichols had a solid day on the track as he posted a pair of second place finishes individually, and was also a part of the second place 4×200-meter relay team. Nichols posted a season best 19’2 1/2” jump in the long jump to finish in second place, as well as a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82 to finish in second place.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Nichols, Grayson Meyer, Chevy Herron and Justin Kassa posted a season best time of 1:40.24 to finish in second place, while Kassa posted a personal best time in the 100-meter dash to finish in fourth place with a time of 12.05. Elijah Geiser also posted a season best time of 2:24.91 in the 800-meter run to finish in sixth place.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Meyer, Wyatt Helmbrecht, Carter Lien and Herron finished in fourth place with a time of 52.54 and the 4×400-meter relay team of Nichols, Lien, Herron and Geiser finished in fourth place with a time of 4:02.

On the girls side, Shaila Roberts picked up a pair of top eight finishes with a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 32’2 1/2”, and a sixth place finish in the discus with a throw of 76’5”. 

Emily Peeters picked up a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.15 and an eighth place finish in the long jump with a jump of 14’2”. Ella Holmes posted a personal best in the high jump with a jump of 3’6” to finish in fifth place, while Lily Roberts posted a personal best in the 100-meter dash to finish in eighth place with a time of 14.29. 

The 4×200-meter relay team of Lily Roberts, Rachel Tumberg, Mary Peterson and Peeters finished in fifth place with a time of 2:04.27, while the 4×100-meter relay team of Kaylee Allen, Makenna Brunko, Lyla Hersch and Holmes finished in seventh place with a time of 1:02.4. The 4×200-meter relay of Brunko, Elliana Koshenina, Lilja Pakkala and Kaitlynn Dittmann finished in seventh place with a time of 2:13.08.

Posting a personal record, but not placing in the top eight overall, were: Elliana Koshenina – 100m dash with a time of 15.79, 

Mary Peterson – 200m dash with a time of 31.60, Rachel Tumberg – 200m dash with a time of 30.88, Kaylee Allen – 100m dash with a time of 15.01, discus with a throw of 51’6”, shot put with a throw of 23’6”, Esne Lien – 200m dash with a time of 35.82, Ella Holmes – shot put with a time of 22’4”, Grayson Meyer – 200m dash with a time of 27.20, Loren Underdahl – 200m dash with a time of 37.83, Carter Lien – 200m dash with a time of 26.08, Garrett Lehmann – discus with a throw of 75’2” and Toivo Mursu – long jump with a throw of 12’8 ½”.
