Last Thursday the New York Mills Eagles cross country team traveled to the Pillager meet held at Madden’s West Golf Course. On an extremely hilly course on a wet day, the Eagles cross country team did very well.

In the junior high girls’ race, Millie Schik placed thirdrd, while in the junior high boys’ race Gus Tumberg took seventh and Finn Costin ninth.

In the varsity girls’ contest Helena Kimber came in third and Bailey Hammond 10th. The Eagle boys’ varsity team consisting of: Dawson Seelhammer, Chavez Cannon, Layton Meyer, Noah Radniecki, Izaya Cannon, Matthew Freyholtz and Loren Underdahl placed second out of four teams. Seelhammer led the way for the Mills boys as he cut off over four minutes from his last year’s time at this race.

“I am again proud of all of our athletes as they worked hard on this difficult course. They continue to improve and their effort during practices is shown in their race performances,” said Coach Greg Esala after the race.

The Eagles next travel to the Double Eagle Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to compete in the Bertha-Hewitt Invitational meet.
