0Funeral services were held for Carmen Ellingworth on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek, with Pastor Don Wagner officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Marcus Lueders.
The pallbearers were Roger White, Jay Leaderbrand, Gary Leaderbrand, Wayne Leaderbrand, Steve Bentley and Raymond Ellingworth.
Carmen will be laid to rest in Leaf River Cemetery, Wadena.
Carmen Kaye Hertzberg was born on February 24, 1945 at the Wesley Hospital in Wadena. Her parents were the late Erwin and Annie (Edwardson) Hertzberg. Carmen grew up on the family farm in rural Deer Creek. She graduated from the Deer Creek High School with the class of 1963.
On April 23, 1966 Carmen was united in marriage with Lloyd Edwin Ellingworth, Jr. at St. Helens Episcopal Church in Wadena. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Scott and Lisa. Carmen and Lloyd, for a short time made their home in Alaska and then Crystal, Minn.
In 1969 they moved to New York Mills where Carmen was employed at Homecrest in Wadena and then began farming with Lloyd. Carmen was also employed at Leaf River Ag in Bluffton and New York Mills until her retirement.
Carmen loved being outdoors and always had an array of pets, her favorite being their Doberman “Tracy” and cats. She enjoyed gardening, reading and always enjoyed their annual trips to Medora in later years. Carmen also liked to play the piano for her own enjoyment, camping, fishing, Free Cell, Sudoko and crossword puzzles. Her relatives, friends and neighbors were an important part of her life and coffee was always on. Her favorite clothing was a sweatshirt and jeans and the color blue.
Carmen was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek, where she was Baptized and Confirmed. She was also a member of the Charles D. Center V.F.W. Auxiliary in New York Mills.
On January 3, 2023 Carmen passed away peacefully at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minn., at 77 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Carmen in death were her parents, Erwin and Annie Hertzberg; husband, Lloyd and great-grandson, Silas Lound.
Carmen is survived by her children: Scott (Chris) Ellingworth of Brooklyn Park and Lisa (Kevin) Holm of Wadena; 5 grandchildren: Tristan, Lexy, Megan, Matthew and Hailey; 3 great-grandchildren: Emmett, Aurora and Dominik; many other relatives and a host of friends.
