The New York Mills Eagles received the 10th seed and opened the sub section playoffs on Monday night against seventh seeded Breckenridge. The results of the game were not available at the time of press.

The Eagles enter the playoffs with a record of 2-24 overall, while the Cowboys are 3-21 on the season. The Eagles enter the playoffs averaging 42 points per game on offense, while giving up 63.7 points per game on defense. The Cowboys average 59.7 points per game on offense and give up 76.5 points per game on defense.

The winner of the game will take on second seeded Battle Lake on Thursday night. The sub section semi-finals will be held on Saturday in Perham, while the sub section and section finals will be held next week.

The Eagles wrapped up their regular season last week with an 81-52 loss to Rothsay in non-conference action.

The game was back-and-forth until the final 8 minutes of the game when Rothsay started hitting 3-pointers at an amazing pace. The Tigers hit 15 3-pointers in the game and shot better-than 50 percent from behind the arc.

“When you’re trying to guard a five out offense, it becomes basically impossible to get a ton of stops when the offense is making 3-pointers, because now you have to respect that, which leaves the lane very vulnerable,” said Baune. “I give all the credit in the world to Rothsay because they played amazing and just flat out wanted it more than we did that night.”

Sam Kopveiler led the way offensively for the Eagles as he finished with 13 points, while Brayden Ehnert finished with 12 points and Teagan Lausten scored 10.
