NYM to travel to WHA Friday night

New York Mills dropped to 1-2 on the season with a tough 38-0 loss to Parkers Prairie on Friday night. 

“Tough night for us losing to a good Parkers Prairie team,” said head coach Matt Radniecki. “They have excellent playmakers and it showed with their big play touchdowns that they had. They are well coached and did an excellent job of doing their jobs and doing them well.  They are a very deceptive team and run great fakes. They also have two backs in Boesl and Revering and they showed why they are good with their speed and strength.” 

Mason Boesl and David Revering combined for five of the Panthers six total touchdowns with Boesl breaking loose for a 61-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to put the Panthers in front by a score of 7-0 following the extra point kick. Revering scored his first of two touchdowns in the first half by finding the end zone from 11-yards out to make the score 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Revering scored later in the second quarter on a 6-yard run and the two-point conversion failed to leave the score at 19-0 at halftime. 

In the third quarter, Boesl scored on a 51-yard run and Revering nearly matched that with a 50-yard run of his own to make the score 32-0 in favor of the Panthers. Parkers Prairie added a 62-yard pass in the fourth quarter to end the game by a score of 38-0.

As a whole, Radniecki said the Eagles made a number of mistakes and will look to clean those up as they prepare for a fast Walker-Hackensack-Akeley team on Friday night. 

“We made a lot of mistakes, but Parkers is also a very good football team and we need to get ready better fast for Walker this week,” said Radniecki. 

The Wolves come into the game with a record of 0-3 overall and are averaging 6.7 points per game on offense, while giving up 48.7 points per game on defense. Last week they fell to Staples-Motley by a score of 53-14 and also have losses to Parkers Prairie by a score of 49-0 and Red Lake County by a score of 44-6. 

The Eagles are currently 1-2 overall and average 14.7 points per game on offense, while surrendering just 17.3 points per game on defense. 

In addition to the varsity team, the JV football team fell to Pine River-Backus last week by a score of 18-16. Radniecki said the team played well and did a nice job on the field. He said the game was close and the team got better on JV last week.
