NYM defeats Sebeka for first win of regular season

New York Mills fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the Park Region Conference with a 53-38 loss to Menahga last week. The loss came on the heels of a loss to Wadena-Deer Creek on Dec. 8, as well as their first win of the season on Dec. 5 against Sebeka.
This week the Eagles had just one game on the schedule, which was a home game on Monday night against Parkers Prairie as part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
Dec. 5
NY Mills picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 5 with a commanding 74-57 win over the Sebeka Trojans.
The Eagles shot nearly 44 percent from the field and outrebounded the Trojans by a 44-28 margin. As a team the Eagles pulled down 19 offensive rebounds to help and keep possessions alive with second chance points.
NY Mills led 29-17 and outpaced the Trojans by a 45-40 margin in the second half in a much more up-tempo game in the final 18 minutes of action.
NY Mills was led offensively by Ayla Olson who scored 24 points to go along with a team-high 15 rebounds. In addition to Olson, Annika Dunrud finished with a double-double of her own as she scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Alayna Baune scored 17 points to go along with 8 rebounds, while Grace Brasel scored 7 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, Gabi Vaden scored 5 points and Rosemary Laudenbach and Dixie Dykhoff rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
Dec. 8
Fresh off their first win of the season, NY Mills had a tough night from the field on Friday, Dec. 8 as they fell to the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines by a score of 51-34. The Eagles shot just 27 percent from the field and hit just four 3-pointers in the loss. On the positive side they turned the ball over just 13 times in the game and came away with 18 steals.
After trailing by a score of 29-15 at halftime, the Eagles were able to match the Wolverines in the second half as they were outscored by just a 22-19 margin in the final 18 minutes of action.
Offensively the Eagles were led by Ayla Olson who scored 15 points to go along with 6 rebounds Rosemary Laudenbach and Alayna Baune each scored 4 points, while Annika Dunrud, Violet Radniecki and Grace Brasel each scored 3 points and Katherin Garcia rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
