The opening ceremonies of the Governor’s Fishing Opener was held on the shores of Otter Tail Lake, near Beach Bums in rural Ottertail on Saturday morning. The event featured speeches from Chris Schuelke of the Otter Tail County Museum (below right) and Erik Osberg (below left), who was one of the Governor’s Fishing Opener event organizers addressed a few dozen people who attended the opening ceremonies on Saturday. Governor Tim Walz stopped by Thumper Pond on Friday and took a tour of Brunswick in New York Mills. He went fishing early Saturday morning, but did not attend the opening ceremony or other formal activities on Saturday. Instead, he returned to St. Paul, Minn., to continue with budget negotiations with the legislature.
