0David Lee Hoyhtya Krekula passed away on June 15, 2024 in Richardson, Texas. He was born on August 15, 1940, at home near the town of New York Mills, Otto Township. He started primary school in a one-room country school and continued high school in town. He graduated from New York Mills High School in 1958 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Montana, Missoula.
While he was teaching in Minnesota, he was awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship at the University of Georgia, Athens. He completed his Master of Science Education in biology. He continued teaching and moved to Whitefish, Montana. While he was teaching in Whitefish, he had the opportunity to apply for a teaching fellowship in Australia. He was awarded the fellowship and taught biology at Hampton High School, a suburb of Melbourne for two years.
After returning to the U.S., David decided to move from teaching into computer Technology. He completed Control Data’s certifications and went to work for Texas Instruments in Dallas until his retirement. After a short time working as a consultant, he decided to reenter the work force and was employed by AT&T until he retired for real.
He is survived by his wife Theodora (Teddy) Mack who has shared life, love, companionship and adventure with him for fifty-nine years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Matilda Hoyhtya Krekula, and nine older siblings.
David enjoyed skiing, photography, music and theater. He sang in community chorales and church choirs. He also took part in community theater and musicals. He volunteered in community programs. He was active in working with young adults who were struggling with issues of addiction.
David leaves a rich legacy as a role model for the next generation of nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his energy, sense of humor, love, kindness and positive outlook on life.
