Nicholas Norbert Rohr was born December 4, 1954, in Perham, to Norbert and Vivian (Palmer) Rohr. He was the third of eight kids and grew up on their family farm in Bluffton. He grew up with a strong Catholic faith which continued throughout his life.
When Nick graduated from High School he hitchhiked to Montana and worked on a ranch. He enjoyed being a cowboy and bought a motorcycle to ride home.
He married Lorna (Lepisto) in 1979, and they had 3 children, Adam, Jenny, and Ted. They enjoyed traveling around the US, especially heading south in the winter and visiting Jenny and her family in Illinois. They had a fun and memorable trip to Alaska where they enjoyed eating all the fresh seafood.
Just like Johnny Cash sang, “He’s been everywhere, man, he’s been everywhere.” As a semi driver, he’d been to all 48 contiguous states and Canada. He hauled livestock, crops, machinery, buildings, and lumber. He loved seeing the world through his semi windows. Nick was good at remembering the highway number in which a city was located; even years after retiring from trucking.
He took a five-year break from trucking to devote to farming with his kids when they were young. He wanted them to grow up on the farm like he did. They raised pigs, beef cows, and crops like hay, corn and even sunflowers. He instilled a strong work ethic and was never afraid of choice words when things went wrong.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lorna, daughter Jenny (Sean) McAdams, South Elgin, Ill., son Ted Rohr, Perham, and three grandchildren Reagan, Finn and Maeve McAdams. Four sisters: Nancy (Tom) Hendrickx, Mary Brand, Janelle Rohr, and Kathy Rohr. Two brothers: Dan (Kim) Rohr and Mark (Carol) Rohr. Five sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Henry) Laamanen, Loretta (Rob) Norgon, Lois Beyer, Lora Brown, and Toni Rohr. One brother-in-law: Paul Lepisto (Donna Leslie), and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his infant son Adam, his parents, Norbert and Vivian Rohr, his brother John, Father and Mother-in-law Russell and Helen Lepisto and sister-in-law Lou Larson.
Nick passed away peacefully at his home on October 20, 2024. In his final days he was cared for by his loving family and Knute Nelson Hospice.
