Memorial services were held for Ann Roberts, age 76 of New York Mills on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New York Mills with Pastor Kathy Hodges officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. The honorary pallbearers are Jesse Roberts, Blake Roberts, Brandon Lorentz, Nicholas Stromme and Christopher Leier. Ann will be laid to rest in Spruce Grove Union Cemetery, rural Menahga, Minn.

Ann Marie Schmidt was born on May 20, 1948, in Perham. Her parents were the late Lloyd Lester and Selma “Sally” Alma (Moltzan) Schmidt. Ann graduated from Perham High School with the class of 1966. She married Kenneth Elton Roberts on August 27, 1966, in Perham. Their 56-year marriage was blessed with 3 children: Dale, DuWayne and Debby.

Ann and Kenny made their home on the Roberts family farm in Homestead Township where they dairy farmed for many years and in the latter years farmed crops and raised beef cattle. Besides working on the farm, Ann was employed at Carr’s Marine in Ottertail and in New York Mills as a Para at the local school and also Mid-State Auto Auction. 

Ann enjoyed baking, playing cards, reading, visiting and was an active member at the New York Mills Senior Center and First Congregation United Church of Christ. She especially loved the gift of giving many gifts and spending time with her grandchildren.

On November 11, 2024, Ann passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D. at 76 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Ann in death were her parents, Lloyd and Sally Schmidt; her loving husband, Kenny; children: Debby and Dale; brothers: Lyle and Bobby.

Ann is survived by her son, DuWayne (Mary Jo Loerzel) Roberts; grandchildren: Trisha (Nicholas) Stromme; Jordin (Chris) Leier; Jesse (Olivia); Brandon (Katie) Lorentz; and Blake; great-granddaughter: Charli Lorentz; many other relatives and a host of friends.
