Wilbur “Willy” Gropper passed away peacefully in his home on June 10, 2025, in New York Mills. He was born on October 5, 1943, in Perham, Minnesota, to Carl and Emma (Butzke) Gropper.  He was baptized and confirmed on June 9, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Corliss.

Willy attended New York Mills High School before serving his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, stationed in Korea. Following his military service, he returned home and began working at Lund Boats. In addition to his employment there, and after he and Ellen Jaakola were married, they bought a farm near New York Mills.  Together Willy and Ellen had two children: Trent and Trudy.  

A lifelong baseball enthusiast, Willy played amateur ball with the Corliss Wildcats. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life, especially enjoying watching the Minnesota Twins. Known for his gentle nature and kind spirit, Willy was always eager to stay connected with friends and loved ones.

Willy is preceded into death by his parents, granddaughter Morgan; Brothers: Paul, Larwence, Laverne; sister Laura Lubitz; and nephew Paul Jr.

Willy’s passing is mourned by his children Trudy Gropper and Trent (Riika) Gropper; grandchildren: Jeremy, Tyler, Cheyenne, and Zavier; Brother Ralph Gropper; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
