The New York Mills Eagles fishing team hosted the second Heart O’ Lakes High School Fishing League tournament of the season Thursday night on Big Pine Lake. Despite rain showers moving through the area, student anglers showed determination as they reeled in solid results.

New York Mills had two teams place in the top eight on their home waters. Sixth place went to Captain Josh Balcer with anglers Brylee Balcer, Lily Greiger and Sadie Hotakainen. Eighth place was claimed by Captain Matt Richter with anglers Cass Ament, Wyatt Helmbrecht and Reed Rastedt.

Tournament organizers thanked volunteers who helped with boat launches, scoring and weigh-ins, ensuring the event ran smoothly.

Wyatt Helmbrecht caught a dandy 21.75-inch walleye Thursday night.

The Heart O’ Lakes series will continue Tuesday, July 8, on Rush Lake.
