The New York Mills Millers were able to withstand a late comeback attempt by Midway on Wednesday night to hang on by a score of 5-4.
After Midway took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, both teams were able to do just enough to keep their opponents off the scoreboard until the Millers tied the game on a Brayden Ehnert single with two outs that brought DaShaun Robinson across the plate with two outs.
From there it was the Derrin Gaudette show at the plate for the Millers as he gave NY Mills a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when he led the inning off with a solo home run. Just one inning later and it was Gaudette with some heroics once again as he connected with a three-run home run with two outs to put the Millers up by a score of 5-1.
The insurance runs came in handy as Midway scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, including a pair of runs on an error and an RBI single with two outs, before Austin Maneval stranded the tying run on first base to preserve the 5-4 win.
Gaudette had a huge game at the plate for the Millers as he went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and four RBIs.
Hunter Holtti started the game for the Millers and went seven innings, giving up just seven hits and one earned run. Robinson pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit and three unearned runs, before Maneval pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out two batters to collect the win.
