Cultural Center to host singer on November 5

Chris Koza will be performing at the Cultural Center in New York Mills on Nov. 5.

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is hosting  Chris Koza in concert on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Koza is a performing artist who utilizes his comforting and raw vocals to sway people into his compositions. A composer and performer, originally from the Pacific Northwest, Koza is comforted in Minnesota by the outstanding music scene that compliments his roots in folk, country, and rock’ n’ roll music.

The music Koza produces is rooted in Americana, but heeds its own spirit. Born out of folk, country, storytelling and rock ’n roll, Koza both honors and builds on Americana traditions by incorporating a unique pop-music sensibility, subtle synthesizers, rich harmonies, and imaginative production choices.

Both solo and with his band Rogue Valley, he has supported and shared the stage with artists such as Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, and The Jayhawks, among others.  His music appears regularly on ABC’s General Hospital and 60 Minutes, and his song Be Wild is featured as the soundtrack to a State of Minnesota tourism campaign. His song (Rogue Valley) The Wolves and the Ravens was featured in Ben Stiller’s film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Koza and his band were in New York Mills in September 2019 for a week-long residency, where they spent time in local schools, senior care facilities, workshops at the Cultural Center, and breweries, connecting with local residents. Everyone who worked with Koza and his band spoke highly of the experience. We are so happy to welcome Koza back for this solo show.
