Loren L. Ehnert, age 88, of Byron, Minn., formerly of Burnsville, Minn., passed away on October 24, 2021 with family by his side, after a long battle with heart disease. Loren Leslie Ehnert was born on October 21, 1933. He was preceded in death by his by his wife of over 50 years, Marlys (Peterson) Ehnert, his parents, Herman Ehnert and Ruth (Johnson) Ehnert, siblings Dale Ehnert, Joyce Grider, and Gerald Ehnert. He is survived by his daughters, Julie (Paul) Wennberg and Lori (Robert) Pietz as well as 5 grandchildren, Erik, Matthew and Elise Wennberg and Alec and Marley Pietz. He is also survived by sister Helen (Paul) Sundberg and Ronald E. (Carol) Ehnert, and many nieces and nephews.

Loren grew up on a dairy farm in New York Mills, where he gained a strong work ethic, appreciation of the outdoors, and a love of family. He was a proud American and army veteran serving in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He graduated with a Business degree from Augsburg College and later obtained his Real Estate Brokers License. He married Marlys Peterson in 1956 and raised their two girls in Burnsville, Minn., where he lived for over 51 years.

Loren served others with generosity and optimism. Whether his country, real estate clients, neighbors, or family, he was happiest when he was able to make the best happen for them – even if they didn’t know or agree on what the best was. Loren cheerfully helped out whenever he could.

Loren enjoyed gardening and maintaining a gorgeous yard. He adored his Lund fishing boat and could filet fish with the best. In retirement he became an avid woodworker and baker (his specialty being apple pie) – giving away most of what he made. He could often be found grilling in his driveway, greeting friends and neighbors as they walked past. Loving his family was important to Loren. He spent much time with Julie, Lori, and their families. He showered his grandkids with hugs and tickles when little, attended many kid’s events, and even learned to text message. Loren had a big, grateful heart that he gently shared with many.

We will honor his life on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, MN. Family, friends, and others whose lives Loren touched are invited to the visitation at 1pm and the service at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged in Loren’s memory to Madonna Summit in Byron, Minn. where he moved in 2019 into independent living. Madonna Summit, 551 Byron Main Ct NE, Byron, MN 55920.

Loren’s family is especially thankful for the excellent, compassionate care he received from Mayo medical providers and from the staff at Madonna Summit.
