Funeral Services were held for Allen Tumberg on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Nicholas Kandoll officiating and prayers by Andy Kandoll. Eulogies were given by Diane Nelmark and Robert Tumberg. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Lynelle Salo. Special music was provided by Allen Carlson. The pallbearers were Kaylor Tumberg, Trentin Iddings, Jon Tumberg, Bryan Tumberg, Randy Keskitalo, and Jay Tumberg. Military Honors were provided by Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills. Allen was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.  

Allen Harold Tumberg was born on May 31, 1937, at home in Otto Township, rural New York Mills. His parents were the late Albert William and Lydia Jennie (Fiskari) Tumberg.  Allen attended Country School until the 8th grade and graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1955. He worked on the family farm in Otto Township and then served in the United States Army and then Army Reserve from July 8, 1961, to July 7, 1966.  

On April 16, 1966, Allen was united in marriage with Carol Pahkala. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Diane, Michael, Robert, Dennis and Jayne. Together Allen and Carol made their home in rural New York Mills. Allen was employed as a mechanic at Keskitalo Brother’s Garage, his brother Don’s garage in Sebeka and then at the Ford Garage in New York Mills. Allen was employed at the Elders’ Home in New York Mills for 20 years and then worked for People’s Express in Wadena.  

Allen enjoyed farming, fixing things in the garage, working on his tractor, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was the caretaker of Woodland Cemetery for 20 years.  

On November 4, 2022, Allen passed away peacefully with his family by his side and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice at 85 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Allen in death were his parents, Albert and Lydia Tumberg; infant son, Michael Allen; siblings: Linda, Laila, Wendell, Harley, Lempi, Bernice, Sylvia, and Donald. 

Allen is survived by his wife, Carol of New York Mills; Children: Diane (Jim) Nelmark of Embarrass, Minn.; Robert (Tricia) Tumberg of Cokato, Minn.; Dennis (Karissa) Tumberg of Lester Prairie, Minn.; Jayne (Jesse) Talo of Cherry, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild due in March of 2023; many other relatives and a host of friends.
