0Bernadette Barbara (Honer) Guck, age 94, of Perham, formerly New York Mills, died on Sunday, January 30, 2022, peacefully with family by her side.
Bernadette was born to John and Julia (Fiedler) Honer on September 8, 1927 in Dent. She attended District #274 in Dent through 8th grade and graduated from Perham High School in 1945. Following graduation she worked for a few years, first taking a job with the Farmers State Bank in Dent, and then working at the Perham Creamery. On September 1, 1953 she was united in marriage to Vincent Guck at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, and together they welcomed six children. After two years of Vince being stationed with the Army in Beckley, W.V., they made their home farming in New York Mills for 37 years. Bernadette stayed busy with the farm work, raising children, and was known for her many baked goods that were always available. They bought a home and moved to Perham in 1992, and after Vince passed away on April 11, 2016 Bernadette was fortunate to remain there until just two months before her passing. She had just recently moved to an assisted living facility.
Bernadette was a longtime member of St John’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, and an active member of the Christian Mothers. Upon retiring to Perham, Vince and Bernadette joined St Henry’s Catholic Church and volunteered serving Meals on Wheels for several years. Retirement provided lots of time for the fishing boat, which they enjoyed greatly. Bernadette kept busy with many hobbies over the years, including ceramics and oil painting early on to quilting, cross stitching, and any kind of puzzle from words to jigsaw that kept her mind sharp until the very end. She was very social, enjoying “coffee clutching” with friends, visits with anyone who would call, and numerous, numerous games of cards. Bernadette cherished her family greatly and was always delighted by their visits and family celebrations.
Bernadette will be deeply missed by her children; Jerome (Cecile) Guck, Perham, Ronald (Ronda) Guck, Deer River, Minn., Rose Berndt, East Bethel, Roger (Joleen) Guck, Wadena, Susanne (Danny) McDaniel, Pflugerville, Texas, and Kevin Guck, New York Mills; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Katie Weegman, Ray Honer, LaVerne Hendrickx and Bud Honer, and in-laws, and son-in-law Steve Berndt.
