0Funeral Services were held for Cynthia Ailie of Wahpeton, N.D. (formerly of New York Mills) on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Nicholas Kandoll officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Louise Amberg-Jokela. A reading was read by Marilee Bergerson. The pallbearers were Charles Ailie, Scott Ailie, Steven Carlson, Calvin Tormanen, Paul Tweed and Norman Voigt. Cynthia was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.
Cynthia Ann Elmina Ailie passed away on August 8, 2023 at CHI St. Francis Health in Breckenridge, Minn. on August 8, 2023 at 80 years of age. She had been a resident of CHI St. Catherine’s Long-Term Care for the past 1 ½ years.
Cynthia was born September 26, 1942, in Litchfield, Minn., to John Arvid and Lillian (Muckala) Ailie.
She graduated from New York Mills High School with the Class of 1960, and Bemidji State in 1964. Cynthia started teaching in 1964, in Huntington Beach School District-Huntington Beach, CA, and was an elementary teacher for 40 years, concentrating specifically on second grade. Cynthia’s post graduate work was at Rocky Mountain College in Montana and the University of CA at Irvine. She received her Master of Art in Education in 1984, through the United States International University at San Diego, Calif. Cynthia retired in 2002, from the Huntington Beach School District/Ocean View School District. She then returned to New York Mills, after retirement, to be close to family.
During her working years Cynthia had hobbies of traveling (U.S. and Internationally), knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. After retirement, Cynthia loved to be outside, mowing grass. She was an avid reader, enjoyed working on puzzles (the more complicated the better), and watching t.v.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian.
She is survived by her sister, Gloria Aske, 31 first cousins, other relatives and friends.
