Delbert Sandback was born on September 2, 1954, in Perham, to Glenn and Gail (Frost) Sandback. He graduated from New York Mills High School with the Class of 1972.  In 1975, Delbert met Irene Geiser, and they were married on July 9, 1977. Together they raised their two daughters: Amy and Marie.

Delbert began his career working at the Bluffton Creamery before moving to Zumbrota, Minn. Later, he and Irene returned to New York Mills where Delbert pursued farming. After selling the farm in 2000, he began driving trucks for Daggett Truck Line Inc and later Rich Ericksrud Trucking during retirement.

Delbert had a deep appreciation for nature and spent countless hours on his hunting land planting trees and roaming the property with the dogs. He loved deer hunting with family and going to Canada fishing with his cousins.

Delbert enjoyed family vacations to England, Scotland, and Alaska, camping with loved ones, and biking around town. He was a runner who participated in the Twin Cities Marathon as well as numerous 5K and 10K races. Delbert loved to play card games with his family. He treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

Delbert cared deeply for New York Mills and the people there. He was a quiet man with a quick sense of humor and an easy presence.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Billy Tisdell and James Tisdell; niece Kelly Sandback and nephew Kyle Tisdell.
