Funeral Services for Georgia Bentley, age 96, of New York Mills will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, officiated by Pastor Kirk Douglas. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. at church. The hymns will be sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janell Brakel. Special music is by Heidi Dresser.  Pallbearers are Rick Ehnert, Peder Butenhoff, Eric Grotberg, Andy Grotberg, Trent Ament, Mike Pohlkamp, and Matt Ritcher. Special music provided by organist Janell Brakel.Georgia will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills.  

  Georgia Kathryn Wendt was born on June 26, 1925, in Frazee, Minn. Her parents were the late John and Bertha (Kratzke) Wendt. Georgia grew up on her family’s farm in Dora Township in rural Vergas. She attended country school at District #151 and graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1942.  In 1944, she moved to New York Mills and was employed at the F and M Bank.  

On October 4, 1947 Georgia was united in marriage with Herbert Kahilainen at St Paul’s Lutheran Church at Loon Lake in Vergas. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Janet, Jean, Joan and Herbert “Buddy.” Georgia and Herbert resided in Newton Township where they farmed together. Herbert passed away on December 30, 1972.  

  On February 19, 1977 Georgia Kahilainen married Roger Bentley at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills.  Together they enjoyed traveling much of the country. Roger Bentley passed away on November 17, 2020, he is dearly missed by his family and friends.  

  Georgia enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, feeding the birds, and watching the Minnesota Twins games. On May 6, 2022 Georgia passed away at the Mills Manor with family at her side and under the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Georgia is preceded in death by her parents: John and Bertha Wendt; husbands Herbert and Roger; and sister Gladys Schepper.  

Georgia is survived by her children: Janet (Ron) Ehnert of New York Mills, Jean (Dennis) Harper of New York Mills, Joan (Terry) Grotberg of Ramsey and Herbert “Buddy” (KayAnn) Kahilainen of New York Mills; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sister: Marjorie Richter of Vergas; along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
