John Marlyn Bernu passed away on December 19, 2020 from complications due to Covid 19. 

John  was born on September 18, 1929 on a family farm just outside New York Mills, to Charles and Ella Bernu.  John is the third of four siblings. John grew up in the Glenwood Avenue area of Minneapolis and graduated  as a draftsman from Vocational High School in 1948. John enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Machinist’s Mate aboard the USS Prairie AD-15 during the Korean War. After discharge, he returned to Minneapolis and married Joyce Faye Ward on November 16, 1957. John and Joyce spent a loving lifetime of raising their sons, travelling and finally retirement in the house they built in Dayton, Minn.

John is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Milton and Melvin and his truly beloved wife Joyce. John is survived by his sister Marcella of Port Charlotte, Flor.; sons Greg (Jan), Stuart and Barry (Amy); granddaughters Katt and Emily; many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.

A memorial service is planned for Spring of 2021.  Please send memorials to either the Veteran’s Administration or your nearest Veteran’s service organization in honor of John’s service.
