Memorial Services were held for Kristi Maunumaki, age 57 of New York Mills on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Nicholas Kandoll officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg. The honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren: Gavin Maunumaki, Emilia Maunumaki, Jack Maunumaki, Asher Maunumaki and Anson Maunumaki.  Kristi will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, at a later date. 

Kristi Kay Maunumaki was born on June 14, 1965 at the Wesley Hospital in Wadena. Her parents were the late George William “Billy” and Dixie Kay (Lahti) Maunumaki. She was baptized on July 26, 1967, and confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Kristi graduated from the New York Mills High School with the Class of 1983. She attended the Practical Nursing Program in Detroit Lakes and graduated in 1984 with a degree as an LPN. She was employed at the New York Mills Elders Home, Perham Hospital and Tri-County as a triage nurse. She later went back to the Perham Hospital and transitioned to Home Care. 

Kristi enjoyed spending time with her family—especially her grandkids, including birthday trips, zoo trips and sporting events. She was always caring for others and appreciated her quiet time. 

On March 10, 2023, Kristi passed away at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at 57 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  Preceding Kristi in death were her parents: Billy and Dixie; sister, Kelly; and niece, Mickayla. 

Kristi is survived by her children: Aaron (Tabetha) Maunumaki of Perham and Sierra Maunumaki of Perham; grandchildren: Gavin, Emilia, Jack, Asher and Anson; sister, Kim (Greg) Imsande of New York Mills; Michael (Amy) Maunumaki of Ashby; and Matthew Maunumaki of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
