Memorial Services were held for Lavern Dornbusch, age 83, of Perham, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Northwoods Life Church in Perham, with Pastor Brandon Wenzel officiating. Congregational Hymns were accompanied by Patrice Eblen. Stephanie Schindler was the Cantor. Lavern was laid to rest at Spruce Grove Union Cemetery, Menahga, Minn.

Lavern Eugene Dornbusch was born on March 19, 1940, in Perham. His parents were the late Johan “Fred” Fredrick and Flora Alma (Roberts) Dornbusch. 

Lavern was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, rural Perham.  He attended Perham High School.  Lavern served honorably in Saigon during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from January 22, 1962, to January 11, 1965. 

On June 5, 1963, Lavern was united in marriage with Betty Lou Walker in Stilwell, Okla. Together their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Kevin, Michael and Melinda. After Lavern returned from Vietnam, they made their home in Fridley, Minn. Lavern was employed with Midwest Color Works in Minneapolis, Minn. Lavern began employment with the United States Postal Service in Minneapolis in 1967, retiring in 1995. 

Lavern and Betty made their home in New York Mills until her passing Jan 18, 2000. In 2001 he was united in marriage to June Johnson. Lavern and June made their home in New York Mills and then in Perham in 2004. June passed away on February 17, 2017. 

Lavern was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He enjoyed gun collecting, reloading, shooting, hunting, and rock collecting.  

Lavern passed away peacefully at his home on November 22, 2023, at 83 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Lavern in death were his parents, Johan “Fred” and Flora Dornbusch; wives Betty, and June; siblings: Harry, Vernon, Roy, Doris, Robert, Raymond, Elmer, Donna and Loren.

Lavern is survived by his children: Kevin (Christine) Dornbusch of Audubon, Minn.; Michael (Heidi) Dornbusch of Perham; Melinda Dornbusch of St. Paul, Minn.; 3 grandchildren: Dalton, Skyler and Abigail; special friend and travel companion, Linda Blake; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
