0Michael William Maunumaki was born on July 21, 1964, at the Wesley Hospital in Wadena. His parents were the late George William “Billy” and Dixie Kay (Lahti) Maunumaki. He was baptized and confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Mike graduated from the New York Mills High School with the Class of 1982. After graduation Mike went to work on the family farm with his parents and brother Matt.
Mike and Amy Marie Runningen were married on September 26, 1998 at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, and after their marriage they continued to live on and help work the Maunumaki family farm. In 2007, Mike and his family moved to Ashby near Amy’s family where he worked at the Ashby School in janitorial for a year. However he still commuted back and forth to NY Mills to help work the farm right up to the day his illness would no longer permit him to do so. Mike loved the great outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, or sports, he loved doing them with family and friends. Going for a nice leisurely walk became one of his favorite pastimes where he would enjoy the fresh air, scenery, solitude, and talking to the Lord.
On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Mike passed away at his home in Ashby, Minn., at 60 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; two children, Michael Jr. (Taylohr) Maunumaki of Upton, Wy and Joan Maunumaki of Ashby, Minn.; One grandson, Wesley Maunumaki; one sister, Kim (Greg) Imsande of New York Mills; one brother, Mathew Maunumaki of New York Mills, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Mike in death were his parents: Billy and Dixie; sisters, Kristi and Kelly; niece, Mickayla; and father-in-law, Owen Runningen.
