Mike attended St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School through the 8th grade and then graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1968. In his early years Mike enjoyed motorcycling and earned the nickname “Cycle.” He served in the United States Army from July 29, 1969, to March 1, 1971. On December 9, 1978, Mike was united in marriage to Kimberly Schiller at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ottertail. Mike and Kim purchased the family farm, continuing to farm and raise their family. In 1992 they sold the dairy cows raising beef for a few years. In 1996 Mike began driving semi-trucks over the road, until his early retirement in 2005. Mike spent his retirement years doing what he loved to do: watch westerns, feed the squirrels and birds, mow lawn, create things in his machine shed, go hunting and fishing, play cards and talk to Alexa. Almost daily Mike and his dog Sammy would hop in his pickup and go to visit friends. In his earlier years Mike liked to snowmobile and go camping with his family.
