0Funeral Mass was held for Monica Monson age 92 of Perham, on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Matthew Kuhn officiating. The music was provided by Michael Mettler. The pallbearers were Duane Monson, Scott Monson, Jeff Doll, Tim Monson, Vern Monson, Jesse Monson, Trent Monson and Jason Doll. Honorary pallbearers were Doreen Winkels, Monica Swanson, Renee Milbrandt, Kari Thompson and Lynnae Hosch. Monica was laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Perham.
Monica Clara Riecks was born on April 20, 1928 in Petersburg, Neb. Her parents were the late Bernard and Hildegard (Bierman) Riecks. Monica was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventures in Raeville, Nebraska. She attended Raeville High School until the eleventh grade. On May 30, 1945 Monica was united in marriage to Dale Monson. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Monica and Dale enjoyed gardening and working the harvest together on their farm. From 1945-1956 they farmed East of Petersburg, Neb. In 1956 they purchased a farm near New York Mills. In 1961 they purchased a larger farm north of Perham, where they continued farming until 1976, at which time they moved into Perham.
Monica was employed at the Perham Hospital as an aide and eventually earned her Nursing Degree and continued working at Perham Living until the early 2000’s. Dale passed away on March 29, 2014 at Perham Living. Monica enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening and flowers.
On March 22, 2021 Monica passed away at Perham Living at 92 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Monica in death were her parents, Bernard and Hildegard; husband, Dale; son, Kenneth; grandsons: Richard, Kevin and Brian; granddaughter-in-law, Richelle Monson; brothers: Alfred Riecks, Walter Riecks and Bernard Riecks; and sisters: Bernice Bohn and Germaine Scholl.
Monica is survived by her son, Marvin (Arlene) Monson of New York Mills; Shirley (Lee) Weyer of Garrison; and Sharon (Leo) Swanson of Perham; daughter-in-law, Diane (Joe Hayden) Monson of Perham; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Linus Riecks of Goodland, Kan.; many other relatives and a host of friends.
