Norman Brasel, born in New York Mills, formerly lived in New Hope, Minn. and Brooklyn Park, Minn., passed away on September 5 at the age of 87.

Norm worked for over 35 years with the Hennepin County Highway Department and was a proud Army veteran. He was an avid sports fan who followed all Minnesota teams and when not working or with his family, loved fishing, golf, travel, bowling and woodworking (or as his wife would say, “putzing around in the garage and building things”).  In 1998, Norm received a life-saving kidney from his sister-in-law, Judy—a gift of love and generosity that gave him many more cherished years with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved watching dance recitals and hearing about their hockey, baseball and volleyball games. He was their biggest fan and greatest encourager, celebrating all their life achievements.

Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Helen; brother, Jack; and sisters, Delores, Viola, and Darlene.  Survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine; daughters, Jodi (T.J) Brown and Lori (Andy) Opiola; and grandchildren, Addie, Tommy, Cullen, Henry, and Will.

Memorial Service was held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 2nd St. NE, Osseo, MN. Interment at Ft. Snelling Nat’l. Cemetery at a later date.
