Robert Melvin Frost, age 77, of Gladstone, Mich., passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. He was born on November 11, 1945 in New York Mills, the son of Melvin and Bernice (Sonnenburg) Frost. Robert was raised in Minnesota and was a 1963 graduate of New York Mills High School. Following graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 15, 1965 and served his country until he was honorably discharged on January 25, 1968. After returning from the military, he did floor covering work for a few years. In 1976, he relocated to Anchorage, Alaska and in 1982 he started Rug Running Floor Covering Company and Rugbert’s Floor Covering. Robert owned and operated the company for 20 years doing military, commercial, and residential sales and installation until his retirement in 2002 and in 2003, he moved to Wasilla, Alaska. Robert married the former Gertrude M. Wunder on February 11, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nev. Together, the couple shared 27 years of marriage. In 2019, he at Gert moved to the Upper Peninsula, settling in Gladstone. Robert was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan, was a member of the American Legion Post 1 in Anchorage, Alaska and Post 73 in Gladstone, Mich., and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed playing cards and darts, and doing woodwork.
Robert is survived by his wife, Gertrude of Gladstone, Mich.; son, Robert “Robbie” Frost of Gilbert, Minn.; daughters, Danielle (Wellman) Paulson of Shakopee, Minn., and Melody (Wellman) Smith of Wasilla, Alaska; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry Frost and John Frost; sisters, Mary Fettig, Lorraine Frost, and Debbie Robbins; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Cameron Frost; brothers, Paul and Michael; and sisters, Brenda and Ardell.
A Celebration of Life service will be held next summer in 2023. The Anderson Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone, Mich. are assisting the Frost family and online remembrances can be shared at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
