Walter Richard Tumberg was born to Richard and Esther (Fiskari) Tumberg on the family farm in Deer Creek Township, rural New York Mills on July 23, 1933. He was the oldest child of six. He was baptized and confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church of New York Mills. Wally attended country school at District 136 through the eighth grade.

In 1955, Walter enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1957 when he was honorably discharged.

On September 5, 1989, Walter was united in marriage to Bobbe Ashcraft, and they shared 25 years together until her passing in 2015.

Walter grew up working hard alongside his siblings on the family dairy farm. He took great pride in being a good steward of the livestock and land that God entrusted to his care. Later in life Wally farmed alongside his youngest brother, Tommy, until 1996. He then worked for several years at R. D. Offit, never leaving his farm life roots.

Walter was a quiet and humble man who enjoyed a good joke from time to time. He embraced living a simple life and will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to God, his family and his farm.

Walter is preceded in death by his wife Bobbe Tumberg, parents Richard and Esther, sister Anne Tumberg, and brother Thomas Tumberg.

Deeply loved, Walter’s passing will be mourned by his step-sons: Eric (Leah) Ashcraft and Mark (Sarah) Ashcraft; grandchildren: Dylan (Shannon) Ashcraft, Carah Ashcraft, and Austin Ashcraft; great-grandchildren: Lyla, Mila, and Judah Ashcraft, and Dax Neyens; siblings: Reuben (Ellen) Tumberg, Kenneth (Anna) Tumberg and Mary (John) Aho; brother-in-law Clifford Tumberg; sister-in-law Julie Tumberg; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
