Memorial services for Wayne Amberg will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Nicholas Kandoll officiating. The hymns will be sung by the congregation, accompanied by Louise Amberg-Jokela. Wayne’s son, Erick, will have the honor of carrying the urn. Military honors will be provided by Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills. Internment was in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills. 

Wayne Michael was born on February 21, 1947 at home in New York Mills. His parents are the late Charley and Helen (Fraki) Amberg. Wayne was baptized and confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. He graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1965. 

Wayne honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from April 5, 1966 to February 4, 1970. Wayne was blessed with a son, Erick, born December 9, 1985. For the majority of his adult life, he worked construction in Alaska. In 2010, Wayne retired and moved back to New York Mills. 

Wayne loved watching all Minnesota sports and golfing with his brothers. He had a great love for family. On September 19, 2021, with family at his side, Wayne passed away at the Veteran’s Hospital in Fargo, N.D. at 74 years of age. The family enjoyed his dry sense of humor and visits with him were always a good time. He will be truly missed. Preceding Wayne in death are his two infant daughters; parents, Charley and Helen Amberg; sisters: Linda Amberg, Aileen Maki, Lorraine Barthel, Marcy Helmeke; brothers: David Amberg and Paul Amberg; nephew, Gary Maki and brothers-in-law: Ken Maki and Dick Helmeke. 

Wayne is survived by his son, Erick, and sisters Elaine (Einar) Paavola, Brenda (Keith) Boyne, Becky (Brian) Lohse, Sandy (Steve) Speed and Abbe (Tom) Campbell, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
