This has been a great first month of school! It is hard to believe it is already October and we are moving towards the end of the first quarter and the first trimester. In the high school, the first mini ended on October 11, the first quarter will end on November 1, and the first trimester will end on November 25. Students’ grades are updated by the teachers through ParentVue. If you need help signing up, please contact the elementary or high school offices. There are also conferences scheduled for November 14.
Eagle Academy started on October 7 and will run on most Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. If you have any questions, please reach out to Connie Vandermay.
New York Mills School has started a Lego League, where students build a robot using legos and compete with other schools. This is the first year of the NYM Lego League. Thank you to Lund’s for the sponsorship to get this program rolling.
On October 8, we had two guest speakers, Cory Greenwood and Amberly Snyder. In three different sessions, students across the district attended at least one of the programs. Thank you to the New York Mills Education Foundation and the Parent’s Nest PTO on helping provide the funds for this opportunity! That evening, the NYMEF hosted Turkey Bingo, one of its annual fundraisers. Follow the Parent’s Nest PTO on Facebook for more updates.
The biggest event this past month was Homecoming, which was held from September 30 to October 4. The students and staff put together a great week for the entire school. On September 30, coronation was held with Blake Unger and Alya Olson being crowned Homecoming King and Queen. On Friday, the elementary and high school each had their own pepfest that were great for everyone. Thank you to all students for putting this together and the staff for leading this. A special thank you to Trina Saewert and Bryan Dunrud for helping lead the staff. The week was capped off with both varsity volleyball and football going undefeated on the week.
The varsity volleyball team won all three of their home games during Homecoming week. During the week, Ayla Olson also reached the accomplishment of 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. She completed her 1,000 assists last year. Congratulations to Ayla and the entire team on a great stretch. The team is currently 15-7. Football completed a super exciting comeback on Friday night to beat Breckenridge 22-14 in overtime. That moves the team to 3-3 on the season. Cross Country runners continue to set personal bests and season bests on the season. The runners are peaking at the right time. The Perham/NYM Girls Tennis team is currently ranked number 2 in the state, with sections running October 10-12. The team has had an outstanding season and is currently undefeated! Playoffs start for volleyball, football, and cross country starting the week of the 21st. Go Eagles!
Here are some key dates upcoming for the school: October 17-18, there is no school for students and staff for MEA break. On October 21, there is no school for students. The junior high and senior high choirs will perform Monday, Oct. 28 and the junior high and senior high bands have their first concert on November 4. November 5 is election day.
On November 11 at 10 a.m., the Veterans Day program will be held and the community is welcome to attend. Thanks to the NY Mills VFW Auxiliary for planning this important program.
On November 14, there is an early out at 1 p.m. followed by parent teacher conferences. On November 15, there is no school.
