To the Editor,

We would like to thank Tucker for the very nice article on our practice and the closing of our business, Dairyland Veterinary Service.

We do have two minor clarifications, however.

1. Howard Legried chose this area to start his career in 1958. Although growing up in southern Minnesota, Howard was familiar with the area from a summer Extension job and his wife Lou’s family farm north of Wadena. There were no veterinarians in New York Mills and it was surrounded by family farms. Howard determined East Otter Tail County had one of the highest concentrations of cattle in the entire state of Minnesota and thought the area had great potential.

2. We were truly blessed with outstanding office managers and staff! Dennis Winder ran DVS for over 52 years and was instrumental in our success. He was so knowledgable that many clients sought his advice for solving their animal health care needs. When Dennis retired in 2014, we were fortunate enough to hire Tammy Wittman, who remains our current office manager. She is also very popular with our clients and has modernized our office with spectacular computer skills!
